Hitachi Global Storage Technologies Inc. (HGST) is planning capacity increases for its 2.5-inch hard-disk drives over the next 12 months, the company said Wednesday. In the first half of 2007, HGST anticipates a 200G byte 7,200rpm drive and in the latter half of the year a 5,400rpm drive with a capacity of around 250G bytes.
Former McAfee executive settles with SEC
A former financial officer at McAfee Inc., the security software company that has been under fire since 2002 for accounting irregularities, has agreed to pay over $757,000 to settle fraud charges by the U.S. Security and Exchange Commission.
Vulnerability found in Visual Studio 2005
A vulnerability in Visual Studio 2005 could let an attacker execute code on a targeted Windows machine, Microsoft Corp. said Wednesday. Danish security vendor Secunia AsP rated the vulnerability as "extremely critical" since it hasn't been patched and there are unconfirmed reports it's being exploited, said Thomas Kristensen, chief technology officer for Secunia.
Cicero supports Wi-Fi cellular roaming on Nokia phones
Some users of Nokia Corp.'s combined Wi-Fi and cellular phones will soon be able to make voice calls that can roam between the two networks without dropping the call.
New alliance puts crosshairs on spam
The StopSpamAlliance Web site launched on Tuesday, the result of a plan hatched at the World Summit on the Information Society meeting in Tunisia in November 2005. The alliance brings together several organizations to better coordinate efforts to stop spammers, who frequently frustrate law enforcement efforts by running operations across borders.
U.S. intelligence community's wiki aids info sharing
Members of the U.S. government's intelligence community are using a Wikipedia-like community networking Web site to share information across agency boundaries and open dialogue about disagreements over assessments such as those that led to the war in Iraq, project leaders said.
